Today's Gift

When I am lonely, I try to think of angels. --Betty MacDonald

We need comfort when we feel lonely. Loneliness is often coupled with fear. We wonder, Can I handle what faces me today? Often we think we can't. But we don't ever have to face any situation alone, or handle any painful relationship in isolation. The "angels" who guide and protect us are as close as our thoughts.

Life give us the freedom to define our Higher Power in any way that suits us. Believing our Higher Power is an angel satisfies our need to have someone watching over us, protecting us wherever we are, loving us despite our failings.

We are nurtured or harmed by the thoughts we carry in our minds. Imagining an angel or a ring of angels to walk us through each day relieves our loneliness and dissipates our fears.

I have a friend in my Higher Power. We'll be together throughout this day.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Life didn't promise to be wonderful. ---Teddy Pendergrass

Life doesn't promise us anything, except a chance. We have a chance to live any way we like. No matter how we choose to live, we'll have pain and we'll have joy. And we can learn from both.

Because of our recovery program, we can have life's biggest wonder---love. We share it in a smile, a touch, a phone call, or a note. We share it with our friends, our partners, our family. Life didn't promise to be wonderful, but it sure is full of little wonders! And we only have to open up and see them, feel them, and let them happen.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me see the wonders of life today, in nature, in people's faces, in my own heart.

Action for the Day: I can help make a wonderful things happen for others, with a smile, a greeting, a helping hand. What "little" things will I do for somebody today?

One Day At A Time

Dealing With Defects
If we ask, our Higher Power will certainly forgive our derelictions. But in no case do They render us white as snow and keep us that way without our cooperation.
That is something we are supposed to be willing to work toward ourselves.
They ask that we try as best we know how to make progress in the building of character.
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 65

Thought to Ponder . . .
If I want my Higher Power to remove my character defects, I'll have to stop doing them.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Two choices
by Ralph Marston

When things go wrong, you have two choices. You can make things worse or you can make things better.

You can feel sorry for yourself or you can let the situation inspire you to take positive action. You can look for someone to blame or you can make a decisive move forward.

Just because you’ve been disappointed is no reason to add to that disappointment with your own actions. In fact, just because you’ve been disappointed is no reason to act disappointed.

Your actions are based on your choices in this moment, not on past history. Your actions are based on what you’ve decided to make of yourself, not on what life has dealt you.

What if you could emerge from the situation and be stronger, more positively focused, with a greater sense of purpose and unstoppable confidence? In fact, you can.

Make the choice that will ultimately benefit you and everyone else in your world. No matter how unfair or unjust or disappointing life may be, choose to look ahead, act ahead, live ahead and get ahead.
